FAQ

How far in advance should I try to find a lift?
Our guidelines recommend that you should try to arrange any lifts 2-5 days before the journey.
Are there any rules for the fuel contribution amount? How much must I pay the driver? And is there any commission?
The driver will set the fuel contributions before the journey. The guidelines state that this should be somewhere in the area of 7 to 9 pounds per 100 miles. Please make sure to ask what the cost will be before the journey, and have the cost contribution ready on the day of the journey.

There are no charges from carpooling.co.uk

If you are strapped for cash and cannot really afford to give a cost contribution, you can always create a request, and try offering to make some sandwiches or something for the journey, instead of paying the cost contribution. Then see if you get any takers.
I can't find a lift for the journey that I need to take. What can I do?
If you haven't found a suitable lift for your journey, you can try the following:

Email Reminder: Go to "My Account: My Lifts: Email Reminder" through the navigation bar, and enter a new email reminder. You will then be notified by email of any new entries in our database for the route you need.

Create a Request: Go to "New Journey" and enter a request for the route you need. You will be contacted by drivers if they are driving your route and are looking for passengers.

Enlarge your Search: Use the "Within" variable to increase the radius of your search for the start or end of the journey. This will increase your chances of finding something.

Rent a Car: If you have a valid driving license, you could also rent a car and search for other people on the website who also want to make the journey, then split the cost between you.
I left my mobile in the car that I was in, and need to contact the driver.
Please send us as many details about your journey as you can (Name of the driver, time of departure, meeting and drop-off points, etc.) in an email through our Contact page. We will try to sort out your inquiry as quickly as possible!

Please save your future lift offers in your "notepad" so that you always have the contact details for the driver and details of the journey easy to find.
What is the Notepad?
The notepad is for bookmarking adverts for lifts, so that you can keep track of any you are taking or are interested in. This means that you can always find the lifts that you've saved, and the contact details for them, etc., even if the car is full and the driver has made the offer inactive. You can also attach a note to each of your bookmarks to remind you of anything important.
I have arranged a lift, but the driver has not turned up at the meeting point. What can I do?
It is always a shame if this happens. In this case please first be sure that you have complied with all of our Guidelines. If you have, you can enter the driver into our "Black List", to warn other passengers of what has happened. We also check all of the messages from the user, and will block them if they receive another black mark.
I would like to accept a lift to travel abroad. What should I be aware of?
If you would like to travel abroad, please be sure to take a valid passport with you, and show it to the driver before you depart. If you can't show them a valid passport, the driver might not take you with them.
