Guidelines and Rules
Travel costs are generally something to be negotiated. However we would like to ask all users to abide by the following rules:
- The services for lift sharing from carpooling.co.uk are completely free! carpooling.co.uk is not an agency! We simply provide the platform for users to offer and search for lifts. The driver and passengers agree with each other the departure/destination places and individual cost contributions. There is no agency involvement or cost.
- The travel costs are something to be negotiated. The driver and passenger/s must agree on the fuel contribution before the journey begins. 2 different methods can be used to help calculate the cost contributions:
a) Variable Cost Depending on How Many Passengers There Are: The cost contribution depends on the amount of passengers. carpooling.co.uk's recommendation for a fair price is: fuel costs + 10% / the number of people in the car. Please use the Cost Calculator to help you.
b) Fixed Price: You agree a fixed price, independant of how many passengers there are. Generally this is between 7 and 9 pounds per 100 miles. - Please be aware that the travel cost is also covered by the Road Traffic Act. A driver may not profit from the journey, or the Road Traffic Act has been breached, as well as our terms of service. Please click the following links for more information and our terms of service.
Tip: Agree on the travel cost before the day of the journey, to avoid late discussions. Renegotiating during of after the journey is unfair. It is best to pay the agreed amount to the driver as the journey starts. Not every driver will have the right change, so it is best to bring the correct amount of money with you.
